Navigating Block Island

Getting to Block Island can require planes, trains, cars and boats but once here, The National Hotel offers the perfect location. Situated on the main street of the town in the heart of the Old Harbor District, the National is directly across the street from the Pt. Judith, RI and New London, CT ferries. It is walking distance to the shops, restaurants and beaches. There are bike and moped rentals around the corner and taxis available for island tours or trips to other areas of the island.

Ferry Service

Pt. Judith, RI

This is the only ferry that runs on a year round basis. They offer both hi speed and traditional service in the summer time. The hi speed ferry takes approximately 30 minutes while the traditional ferry is a 60 minutes and is the only ferry that transports cars and freight to the island. New London, CT

The departure area for this ferry is conveniently located near the Amtrak station in New London, CT making train connections simple. This high speed ferry runs seasonally from May through September, takes approximately one hour and docks directly across from the hotel. It is operated by Cross Sound Ferry which also offers connections from Orient Point, NY. Their website is goblockisland.com.

Montauk, NY

This ferry service is also seasonal running from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Its Block Island port is in New Harbor which requires a short taxi ride to town. This high speed trip also takes approximately one hour. It is operated by Viking Fleet and its website is vikingfleet.com.

Flights

New England Airlines

This is the only company that flies directly to Block Island. It departs from Westerly, RI and is approximately a 12 minute flight. The airport is located one mile from town and there are taxis to transport to the hotel. For more information, visit blockislandsairline.com.

Commercial Flights

The closest airport on the mainland is Providence Airport (PVD) located in Warwick, RI . It is approximately a one hour drive to the airport. Theodore Francis Green State Airport
